Male Menopause

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

A MedHealth 360 Program

What is Male Menopause?

We all know about female menopause. Every women over the age of 60 has been through it and it is well documented and talked about. But there is also a male menopause. It is also related to age and a change in hormone levels. Estrogen is found in men and will fluctuate with age but the real cause of male menopause is low testosterone levels.

Testosterone levels decline as men age. It happens to all men but some men can lose more than others. This is a natural part of aging. It can be referred to as hypogonadism. If testosterone levels drop too much it can affect a man’s desire levels, the ability to build muscle mass, energy levels, and a myriad of other symptoms mentioned below.

There are treatment options that can help. Bioidentical hormones can replace those lost hormones and help men find their rhythm again.

Low testosterone affects up to 25% of men aged 40 and over. The symptoms of low testosterone could also imply other health related issues. Having blood work done to determine hormone levels is an important first step in working out if the following symptoms are connected to ‘male menopause’:

Take the Low Testosterone Questionnaire

So how do you know you should be seeking help for your low testosterone levels? Fortunately a questionnaire was created way back in 2000 at the Saint Louis University called the ‘Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male’ or ADAM for short questionnaire. It has been used extensively by medical practitioners to help screen for deficiencies. There are ten questions and the more a man answers yes to, the higher the chance of hormone imbalances which would then lead to a blood test. Here are the questions:

FAQs about Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone is the primary sex hormone for men, and is responsible for the development of male sexual characteristics including spermatogenesis, muscle development, and sexual arousal. Testosterone, along with other hormones including estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, and thyroid hormone, assist in the regulation of blood circulation, glucose modulation, energy, and mood.

As a man ages, circulating levels of testosterone, along with the other hormones begin to decrease.  This decrease begins in his 30’s and steadily declines with age. By the time a man reaches his 50’s many will notice a decrease in sexual energy and arousal, increased difficulty in maintaining muscle mass, and in increase in weight around the middle – otherwise known as the beer belly.  Additionally, the decrease in testosterone might also be responsible for a decrease in cognitive memory and cardiovascular disease.

Testosterone is very closely linked to the idea of a muscled, six-packed man with plenty of time and energy to bed their ladies. So it is easy to understand that low testosterone levels could have severe impacts on how men view themselves and their self-confidence. Low testosterone (Low T) is a very real issue that shouldn’t be ignored or trivialized. Roughly 20 percent of men in their 60s suffer from it, rising to nearly 50 percent of men in their 80s.

All medically prescribed hormones are not created equally. Traditionally prescribed hormones are actually NOT identical to human hormones produced by your body. The traditional estrogen replacement therapy is derived from horse urine, and is similar but NOT identical to human estrogen. This is presumably why many women will complain of unpleasant side-effects as well as carry increased risk for heart disease and breast cancers.

Bioidentical hormones, on the other hand, are IDENTICAL to human hormones in every way; this means that they are chemically and functionally identical to human hormones. They were identified in many fruits and vegetables, including yams and because they are identical to human hormones, they appear to be more effective, carry less side effects, and do not appear to have the increased potential for breast cancers.

Bioidentical hormone replacement can help restore a man’s testosterone levels, helping to alleviate the symptoms of low testosterone  and give them back the freedom to enjoy their lives.

A simple blood test will help determine estrogen levels. We draw the blood from your arm and recommend a morning appointment because that is when the levels are at their peak. There is no preparation needed, is a very quick and easy blood draw and apart from possible bruising no after effects.

Low testosterone can potentially cause a myriad of medical physical conditions including low energy and fatigue, low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, memory loss and forgetfulness and muscle loss.  Restoring normal levels of testosterone can restore many of the conditions.

How Do We Treat Low Testosterone?

What make us special? Proprietary Pellets

Our system uses proprietary implantable testosterone slow-release pellets that are created specifically for you. The MedHealth 360 Prescription has a unique system for finding precisely the right dose of testosterone for you based on your symptoms and laboratory studies that can help you feel like you again.

Testosterone replacement in many men can help restore a more satisfying sex life, improve energy, and improve your ability to lose weight and build strength. The hormone replacement treatment we prescribe uses bioidentical hormones which are synthetic hormones derived from plant estrogens which are chemically identical to the hormones found in the human body. These compounded hormones can be synthesized to specifically target the individuals needs.

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

All medically prescribed hormones are not created equally. Traditionally prescribed hormones are actually NOT identical to human hormones produced by your body. The traditional testosterone replacement therapy, is derived from horse urine, and is similar but NOT identical to human testosterone. This is presumably why many men will complain of  side-effects as well as carry increased risk for heart disease.

Bioidentical hormone replacement for men can help replace the lost testosterone levels and reduce symptoms like fatigue and muscle loss.

Anti-aging and Wellness

Testosterone and Estrogen

Testosterone is not the only hormone that controls men’s emotional and physical state. It is important to test all hormone levels and based on the results, create an individualized treatment program and BHRT pellet. Other hormones that should be taken into account are:

Estrogen is not the first hormone you would expect a man to have but it also plays an important part in the emotional and physical well-being of men. Low estrogen can cause sleep disturbances, depression, muscle loss, hair loss, decrease sex drive, can weaken bones, and cause weight gain. Left untreated it could lead to heart disease, diabetes, Stroke and prostrate cancer or enlargement.

Bioidentical hormone Replacement Therapy

Lose weight | Increase Energy | Mental Acuity

Although they are not naturally produced by the body, you body recognizes them as the same, and biochemically reacts to them with the same effect. The many symptoms of menopause can be alleviated with BHRT. You can say goodbye to hot flashes, mood swings, mental fog and more. Using our MedHealth360 program you can also control your weight, increase your energy levels and feel good both inside and out.

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) has actually been used in the United States since 1938. Bio-identical Hormones are all natural plant based products made from yams and a small amount of soy. These hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones produced within our own bodies. There are numerous studies worldwide that document the benefits and safety of BHRT. These studies also report a lower incidence of side effects when compared with prescription drugs. BHRT should not be confused with “synthetic hormones which are typically found in many creams, gels and injectables used for hormone replacement.

BHRT is a short, simple in-office procedure using local anesthesia. Your doctor will insert the pellets into the fatty layer just beneath your skin. In men and women, a small incision is made in the buttocks or in the lower abdomen. The process is painless and takes just a few minutes.

One of greatest advantages of pellet therapy is the low incidence of side effects. Although extremely rare, side effects may include: slight bruising, minor bleeding, infection or extrusion of the pellets.

Your doctor will interpret your blood tests and determine an appropriate dosage specifically designed for your body. Women who receive estrogen can feel significantly better in 24-36 hours. Men and women who receive testosterone will start to feel relief of symptoms in 10-14 days. After your pellet insertion, you should avoid vigorous exercise for a few days as directed by your physician. Your doctor will evaluate your hormone levels on an ongoing basis and monitor any future changes needed.

You can obtain BHRT Pellets by scheduling an appointment with a trained, certified physician who specializes in hormonal therapy. In order to obtain the correct dosage and proper placement of the pellets, the doctor should be knowledgeable and specifically trained in pellet therapy!
